QUALITY TECHNICIAN (3D SCANNING)

Job Summary

Contract Industrial Tooling has an opening to expand our Quality/Technical/Design teams, supporting them with implementing / operation of new 3D scanning and probing capabilities into the daily plant operations.
Using a handheld metrology grade 3D scanner, along with portable 3D measurement probing, you will be providing professional and appropriate 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and inspection services in a timely manner. This position will be responsible for maintaining calibrations schedules along with selecting, setting up and implementing the necessary 3D measurement tool(s), along with preparing the data for downstream processes including delivery of inspection outputs and assisting with reverse engineering projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage DISCUS Ballooning software for new projects and changes to current projects.

  • Use technical skills to provide 3D scanning, inspection and reverse engineering services to support many applications in a wide variety of industries.

  • Collect 3D scan data using the Metra Scan ball and Handy Probe in the QA lab and on the shop floor when needed.

  • Create forms and dimensional analysis reports to support customers inspection requirements using PolyWorks Inspector and VX Elements.

  • Assist design with reverse engineering projects using software tools like VX Model and/or Solid works.

  • Assist with analysis and quoting phases by offering sound engineering and technical advice regarding capabilities, time, and process.

  • Participate in data reviews with team members and customers by effectively communicating results.

Authority

Employees are required to follow procedures, work instructions and operational processes.  The potential consequences for non-compliance may result in an increased rejection rate at the Customer, increased internal scrap rate, delayed or late shipments, personal injury, and a negative impact on the environment.  

All employees have the authority to stop production and contain nonconforming product.  Significant quantities of nonconformances must be reported immediately to management.

This position requires no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical or Associates degree in Engineering Technology / CAD Drafting & Design Technology (or related field) or equivalent technical / job experience.

  • Ability to read a manufacturing print and identify key components including units, basic tolerances, dimensions, datum structure, etc.

  • Understanding of basic measurement tools like measuring tapes, calipers, pin gages, thread gages, etc.

  • Must be able interpret engineering requirements, verify recommended solution, and apply in a timely manner

  • Exhibits strong organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient with Office Suite

  • Must be flexible and willing to execute tasks as directed by Quality Management.

Preferred Experience

  • Understanding basic use of what, when, and how a measuring device is needed for the job.

  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software (Polyworks & VX Elements is preferred.)

  • Understanding basic GD&T principles is a plus.

Working Conditions / Environment

This job operates in equally a professional office and manufacturing environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Must be able to operate a computer and communicate with coworkers regularly. 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to loud noise, fumes and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; may work with or around chemicals that create a hazardous exposure which is defined on the accessible Safety Data Sheets; employee is exposed to moderate temperature changes over an eight-hour shift.
