DESIGN ENGINEER
Job Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, BOM creation and upload for new products. Improves upon the performance and design of existing products and oversees production and packaging of final product.
Duties and Responsibilities

Use computer-aided design (CAD) to design concepts
Design, model, and test prototypes for products
Conduct research and create design proposals for projects
Establish design briefs; organize and maintain engineering records
Oversee prototype development and confirm designs with purchasing/customer team
Create concepts that meet our production capabilities
Identify and select materials needed for production
Create parts lists
Ensure components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and customer standards

Authority
Employees are required to follow procedures, work instructions and operational processes. The potential consequences for non-compliance may result in an increased rejection rate at the Customer, increased internal scrap rate, delayed or late shipments, personal injury, and a negative impact on the environment.
All employees have the authority to stop production and contain nonconforming product. Significant quantities of nonconformances must be reported immediately to management.
This position requires no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience
Preferred Associate’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering and/or 3+ years of related work experience
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to coworkers, customers, and suppliers
Ability to manage several projects at one time
Able to work independently on a project through its completion with minimum supervision
In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks 3D modeling and 2D drawing
Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes
Impeccable attention to detail and ability to work within short time lines with speed and accuracy
Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
Strong math and IT skills
Strong written and oral communication
Working Conditions / Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard and specialized office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, large format printers and a 3D printer.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to loud noise, fumes and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; may work with or around chemicals that create a hazardous exposure which is defined on the accessible Safety Data Sheets; employee is exposed to moderate temperature changes over an eight-hour shift.
