CNC PROGRAMMER

Job Summary

The CNC Programmer develops programs by writing code to produce machined parts on CNC mills and lathes.  Set up and operate CNC machines while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

This description represents the most significant job duties but does not exclude other work duties assigned or required but not mentioned.  

  • Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blue prints, engineering plans and drawings.

  • Set up and Program CNC Lathe and Mill machining centers.

  • Familiarity with G-Code, M-Code, & Conversational Programming.

  • Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies

  • Maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning and facing operations, take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing work tools and quality assurance.

  • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work and perform detailed inspection of parts produced.

  • ATTENDANCE:  Good attendance includes reporting to work on time, sticking to work schedules, being prepared to start work on time, remaining on the job during the workday to complete assigned duties and limited use of unscheduled leave.

Job Requirements

All employees have the responsibility to contain and immediately notify management of any nonconforming product.

This position requires no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in working in a machine shop environment.

  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role or purchasing environment or combination of experience and education

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to coworkers, customers, and suppliers

  • Ability to manage several projects at one time

  • Able to work independently on a project through its completion with minimum supervision

  • Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, machining and tooling background and previous manufacturing background/environment.

  • Impeccable attention to detail and ability to work within short time lines with speed and accuracy

  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively

  • Strong analytical mindset

  • Strong written and oral communication

Working Conditions / Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing environment.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to loud noise, fumes and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; may work with or around chemicals that create a hazardous exposure which is defined on the accessible Safety Data Sheets; employee is exposed to moderate temperature changes over an eight-hour shift.
